Isolation of Israel from the world community

You're unlikely to learn this in the world's newspapers, but Israel
was among the first nations to offer help to those affected by last
week's terrible disaster in south Asia.

It sent doctors, supplies and set aside $100,000 for each nation hit by
the recent tsunamis, according to reports in the Jewish Telegraph Agency
(JTA). This wouldn't be such a big deal, except that reports of nations
offering help released by the United Nations and printed in newspapers
worldwide, don't include it. They do, however, include the donations
several other countries whose contribution were as much or less. One
report lists donations of personnel and material separately. Israel,
which sent four top doctors from its Hadassah Hospital (including its
head of general surgery and trauma, its chief of pediatrics and two
anesthesiologists,) to Sri Lanka, the JTA reports, was not mentioned.

You may not know that the American Jewish World Service expected to send
its first shipment of medicine Tuesday to Sri Lanka, Indonesia and
India. The JTA reports the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee
is working with its office in Bombay and elsewhere to coordinate efforts
to provide food, water, clothing and shelter to affected countries.
B'nai B'rith is accepting donations to help victims, and an Orthodox
outreach group in Thailand also responded to the crisis. It dispatched a
rabbi to Phuket to aid rescue efforts, and turned three of their
Thailand outposts into crisis centers where survivors can call home,
have a free meal or receive funds for new clothing and medical help.

You also might not learn, unless you searched the information out like I
did, that there were perhaps 200 Jewish victims of the disaster still
missing as of Tuesday, according to Israel's Foreign Ministry, which
told the JTA that at least 33 Israelis are receiving treatment in
hospitals in the region. I've read about the terrible losses suffered in
this disaster by citizens of many other nations, but not a word about
these people, which include a Belgian Jewish couple whose 11 month old
son was reportedly ripped from their arms and drowned.

In the same issue Tuesday, the JTA reported about a couple of Israeli
scientists making a breakthrough in the treatment of AIDS, which follows
closely on the heals of the two Israeli scientists recently awarded the
Nobel Prize for their breakthrough in cancer treatment. But that's
another story you're not likely to read much of in the mainstream press.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I can't think of an innocent explanation for the
omission of Israel's contributions to this and other humanitarian
efforts worldwide by the UN and the world's main media outlets. I can't
help feeling it's a not-so-subtle attempt to isolate Israel and the
Jewish people from the world community, at least in print and therefore
in public opinion, even while Israel and many Jews go about the business
of behaving like human beings.

Not that they're doing what they do for recognition, but it's enormously
frustrating that this keeps happening. For instance, did you know that
Israel was the first country in the world, even before the United
States, to conduct a national moment of silence for the 9/11 victims?
This was done even as many Palestinians shouted, danced and handed out
candy. Maybe you didn't know about that, either.

The UN should just admit it despises the Jewish state and the Jewish
people, has no intention of ever recognizing anything positive either
ever does, and dispense with the pretense of fairness once and for all.
But dispelling the myth that Israel in particular and Jews in general
are the world's bad guys is imperative not just to combat growing
worldwide anti-Semitism, but also for Jews who might, if they rely on
the mainstream media for information, be starting to question
themselves. Not to worry , though, the humanity of the people the former
head of Malaysia recently accused of "inventing" human rights remains
intact, no matter what you read or don't read in the paper.

Sure, we think that if Palestinians have legitimate grievances this

Naturally, we think that the only people on earth who should never be
allowed to exercise the right of self-defense are the Jews. Jews should
only resolve the aggression against them through capitulation, never

We think the only country in the Middle East that is a fascist
anti-democratic one is the one that has free elections. But that does not

We demand that the only country in the Middle East with free speech, free
press or free courts be destroyed. But that does not mean we have

We oppose military aggression, except when it is directed at Israel. But
that does not mean we have anything against Jews as such.

We really understand suicide bombers who murder bus loads of Jewish
children and we insist that their demands be met in full. But that does
not mean we have anything against Jews as such.

There are Jewish, leftist anti-Zionists and we consider this proof that
anti-Zionists could not possibly be anti-Semitic; not even the ones who
cheer when Jews are mass murdered. These are the only Jews we think need
be acknowledged or respected. But that does not mean we have anything

dismembering one of the parties to that conflict is the one involving

We do not think murder proves how righteous and just the cause of the

We do not think the Jews are entitled to their own state and must submit
to being a minority in a Rwanda-style bi-national state, although no other
state on earth, including the 22 Arab countries, should be similarly
expected to be deprived of its sovereignty. But that does not mean we have

We think that Israels having a Jewish majority and a star on its flag
makes it a racist apartheid state. We do not think any other country
having an ethnic-religious majority or having crosses or crescents or
Allah Akbar on its flag is racist or needs dismemberment. But that does
not mean we have anything against Jews as such.

We condemn the mistreatment of women in the only country of the Middle
East in which they are not mistreated. But that does not mean we have
anything against Jews as such.

We condemn the mistreatment of minorities in the only country in the
Middle East in which minorities are not brutally suppressed and mass
murdered. But that does not mean we have anything against Jews as such.

We demand equal citizen rights, which is why the only country in the
Middle East in need of extermination is the only one in which such rights
exist. But that does not mean we have anything against Jews as such.

We have no trouble with the fact that there is no freedom of religion in
any Arab countries. But we are mad as hell at Israel for violating
religious freedom, and never mind that we are never quite sure where or
when it does so. But that does not mean we have anything against Jews as

So how can you possibly say we are anti-Semites? We are simply
anti-Zionists. We seek peace and justice, thats all. And surely that does

Yasser Arafat is no longer among us. President George W. The results have been disastrous. If Arafat's demise has opened an opportunity for peace, Europe's policy must be dramatically changed to seize it.
Along with a number of other countries in Europe and the Arab world, Sweden has long provided funding to the Palestinian Negotiation Support Unit (NSU). That's despite the fact that since the collapse of the peace talks this body has developed into a propaganda center for the PLO. It's astounding that several governments continue to support an outfit that's directly opposed to what it claims to uphold: democratic development, respect for human rights and the rule of law.
In 1997, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) commissioned Sune Persson of Goteborg University, an internationally known expert on Middle Eastern affairs, to provide a status report on the Palestinian Authority and its relationship with the citizens under its jurisdiction. His conclusions were unequivocal: "To continue to support Arafat and his corrupt regime is indefensible. As regards support for the peace process in the Middle East, Arafat's dictatorial one-man show is becoming an embarrassment."
Prof. Persson's closing recommendations were that "Swedish aid to the West Bank and Gaza should be cut back. Aid to the Palestinian civil society should continue. No Swedish development funding whatsoever should be given directly to the corrupt Palestinian Authority."
A few days before this report was to be presented, it was classified as secret. It has long been unclear who ordered this step or why. The present minister for development cooperation insists that it was Sida's decision. Other sources claim the foreign ministry was responsible. Due to this uncertainty, a colleague in parliament and I took the matter to the Swedish parliament's committee on the constitution for scrutiny. What we have long suspected, however, has now been confirmed by the author of the report: That the decision was taken by "someone" in authority at the foreign affairs ministry.
The decision is all the more remarkable in view of the fact that shortly afterwards, despite the conclusions of the Persson report, Pierre Schori visited Arafat in Ramallah, promised a further 158 million crowns ( 17.6 million) in aid to the Palestinian Authority, and invited him to visit Stockholm. Until recently, Mr. Schori was Sweden's ambassador to the U.N.; at the time, he was the minister responsible for development cooperation.
The need to protect Sweden's relations with a foreign power, or in this case with one of the sides in the Middle East conflict, can scarcely be cited to justify classifying a report written by an independent researcher. The decision did, however, allow the Swedish government to pursue a policy towards the Palestinian Authority that directly contravened the recommendations in the report. Nor can the suspicion be avoided that the report was classified as secret in order to preclude parliamentary scrutiny of the government's policies towards the Palestinian Authority and the Middle East conflict.
Recently, Forbes magazine reported that Arafat was one of the richest politicians in the world, having possessed over $200 million. A former Palestinian minister of finance has told the Associated Press that Arafat's financial empire amounted to between $2-4 billion. The IMF and the EU have both tried to throw light on Arafat's finances, but in vain. Two years ago, Arafat's finance minister went through the Palestinian Authority's coffers and found that approximately $1 billion was missing. The explanation given at the time was that the money had been lost through bad investment. Arafat himself refused to reveal how the money had been used, on security grounds. While he appears to have led a very simple life, it is clear that large sums have been used both to buy unquestioning loyalty and for political purposes, which was not at all what they were intended for.
Sweden is generally considered one of the most transparent societies in the world. Also, we like to describe ourselves as being at the forefront of the fight against corruption. I would like to go a step further and propose that we apply zero tolerance to corruption. Providing aid in corrupt environments is always risky. But that's all the more reason to carefully monitor the situation, and cut off aid to corrupt authorities.
My government should now clarify what steps it intends to take (together with the other countries involved) to guarantee that the taxpayer's money reaches the right destination, not least as this is a question of public assistance in an ongoing international conflict.
How do European governments imagine that they served the cause of peace by lavishly supporting a leader who oppressed his own people and tolerated widespread corruption? Donor countries must realize that they sent the wrong message and served only to paralyze Palestine by cementing the power of Arafat and his cronies. The Palestinians have, as the World Bank notes, "the highest per capita aid transfer in the history of foreign aid anywhere."

We have in Sweden planty of political organisations and other (like church)who in the activ way call for boycott of Israel and israeli products.

You will be astonished.
Summa sumarum the swedish society is totaly influenced

As far we don`t see any signs of the bigger intellectuall
resistence against this fenomenon.
One can say,that Sweden is the only country in the Europe ,where the arabic propaganda created and formed the part of the nations
collective consciousness.

I was astonished to hear how simple and propagandistic these people talked.I remember Dror feiler talked about Memri,and
said "the all are old Mossad folks" or something like that.I remember Ruvajda talking about her father,al Fatah acivists ,who was expelled
from Gemany after Munich massacre 1973.She described the humilation of the family etc etc.
